Grimm view of Bathwick

Grimm view of Bathwick 1789

S.H.Grimm, 'The New or Pulteney Town, Bath, as it was at the end of June, 1789, taken from a house in the Orange Grove' (British Library Add Ms 15546, no.123)

When Grimm visited Bath in the summer of 1788, he sketched a still rural Bathwick, but the following June the 'New or Pulteney Town' was springing up. Argyle Street houses were already being roofed, while Laura Place was reaching the upper storeys. Here we see building materials being unloaded at the wharf beside Bathwick Mill.
